Kanamycin monosulfate
Indications/Uses
Suppression of intestinal bacteria before bowel operations; adjunct in the treatment of hepatic coma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Bowel sterilisation: Adult 1 g/hr for 4 hr, then 1 g/6 hr for 36-72 hr. Childn & baby 150-250 mg/kg/day in divided doses/hr for 6 hr. Adjunct in the treatment of hepatic coma Adult 8-12 g/day in divided doses.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Renal & hearing impairment, intestinal ulcer, poor oral & parenteral nutrition. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Rarely, ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity. Infrequent GI disorders. Rarely, vit K & vit B deficiency.
Drug Interactions
Combined use w/ anaesth or muscle relaxants may aggravate resp depression.
